WHAT IT IS…

General Description 

The Education Liaison oversees the management of educational services between school, group homes, foster parents, case managers and others to ensure that the educational needs of our youth are being met; provides direct services to foster parents, case managers and youth to improve educational outcomes.  

YOU WILL GET TO…

Program Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees the development of policies and procedures for the purpose of determining the needs for individual foster and group home youth. 

  • Oversees service provision including educational case management, tutoring and mentoring; provides resources and assistance in areas of higher education, career, vocational and transitional living for emancipating foster youth. 

  • Act as a liaison to all district superintendents and school personnel, county schools, group home providers, foster parents, and youth to ensure appropriate and timely admissions, transitions, and discharges to/from schools. 

  • Act as a liaison to all area colleges and post-secondary institutions, group home providers, foster parents, and youth to develop college coaches and other supports to facilitate post-secondary recruitment, admission, financial aid and academic support for older and former foster youth.   

  • Provide leadership to Education and other agency partners for the purpose of facilitating collaboration, subcontracting and community partnerships, ensuring outcomes for youth. 

  • Provide consultation on issues related to education, special education, educational due process for student discipline, and on programs and services offered in alternative education. 

  • Design and implement multiagency training to ensure that services conform to county, state and federal guidelines.  

  • Assist in developing information for newsletters, brochures, webpages and other materials for youth about educational options and related issues.  

  • Collect data and prepare documents and reports for the purpose of program evaluation.  

  • Plan and implement training for foster placement staff and other professionals that serve the youth. 

  • Participate in agency strategic plan and quality improvement processes.   

  • Ability to safely & successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, & other federal, state, & local standards, including meeting qualitative & quantitative productivity standards.  

  • Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA & other federal, state, & local standards.  

  • Ability to comply with all personnel policies & procedures 


Core Responsibilities: 

  • Promotes a positive working environment within FACT.

  • Maintains a professional and respectful demeanor with Agency employees, consumers, visitors, and the public. 

  • Actively participates in training, staff meetings, and Agency activities as required. 

  • Completion of TBRI initial orientation and training and subsequent training.  

  • Maintains an understanding and identification of secondary trauma and also supports other Agency employees in secondary trauma identification.  

  • Participates in special projects or additional assignments as required. 

  • Complies with the Agency’s Employment Policies & Procedures and Standards of Conduct. 

  • Maintains confidentiality of all matters related to FACT affairs and refrains from internal and external discussions related to any employee, consumer, financial, or administrative issue except as required as part of job performance.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills 

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills 

  • Prior program/administrative support experience preferred 

  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office and related applications 

  • Prior experience using standard office equipment 

  • Show initiative in working on several project/program components at the same time 

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, with “regular” business hours set by FACT

  • Effective teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently as required 

  • Licensed by the State of Michigan in their relative field as either a limited or full license is required

  • Reports to the CEO

Position Type

  • Full-time, with occasional evening and weekend hours required for community events and client appointments. 

Location

  • The position will be based at FACT's Service Hub with frequent travel within the community to meet with clients and attend events.
