Prevent the Need for Families to
Enter Child Welfare

A robust community of support for families to connect
Families have access to resources before Child Welfare is needed

Prevention services are crucial in strengthening families and ensuring the safety and well-being of children. By providing families with the necessary support and resources, we can prevent child abuse, neglect, and out-of-home placement.

Prevention services can help identify families at risk of crises before they escalate. Early intervention through counseling, parenting classes, and other forms of assistance can prevent situations from deteriorating to the point where child protective services need to become involved. Prevention services help families avoid crises, improve their parenting skills, and enhance their ability to cope with stressors.

Prevention services can promote the overall well-being of children. Children who grow up in a supportive family environment with access to adequate medical care, educational resources, and mental health services are more likely to succeed in school and life. By providing families with resources to meet their basic needs, our community can help children thrive and reach their full potential.

Thirdly, prevention services can be cost-effective in the long run. It is more expensive to remove a child from their home and place them in foster care or an inpatient/residential center than it is to provide prevention services to keep them with their families. By investing in prevention services, we can reduce the need for costly out-of-home placements, avoid the trauma of separation for children, and increase the likelihood of family reunification.

In conclusion, prevention services are a critical intervention in ensuring the safety and well-being of children and strengthening families. By offering support and resources to families, we can help them overcome challenges, improve their parenting skills, and enhance their home environment. Prevention services can also promote the overall well-being of children and be cost-effective in the long run. Therefore, it is essential to prioritize prevention services in our efforts to build strong, healthy communities.

How we can prevent the Need for Families to Enter Child Welfare

  • Community-based concrete supports are vital for the well-being and stability of families.

    - Access to sufficient and nutritious FOOD ensures that children are adequately nourished, promoting their growth and development.
    - HOUSING assistance programs offer shelter and stability, ensuring that families have a safe and secure environment to thrive.
    - EMPLOYMENT opportunities and skill-building initiatives enable parents to secure stable income and provide for their families.
    - EDUCATION assistance opens doors for individuals to pursue their career goals, empowering them to create a better future for themselves and their children.
    - Peer and parenting support NETWORKS provide guidance, encouragement, and a sense of belonging, helping families navigate the challenges of parenting.
    - CHILDCARE services offer a safe and nurturing environment for children, allowing parents to work or pursue education without worry.
    - LEGAL services help families access justice and ensure their rights are protected.

These crucial community-based concrete supports work together to create a solid foundation, enabling families to overcome barriers and build brighter futures for themselves and their children.

  • At Families and Children Together, we understand the importance of providing culturally appropriate family-strengthening services.

In our therapeutic programs, we incorporate cultural values and traditions to ensure that families from diverse backgrounds feel understood and supported. Our mental health services adopt an inclusive approach, recognizing the impact of cultural norms and beliefs on individuals' well-being.

Additionally, our physical health services emphasize culturally relevant practices, ensuring that families have access to resources and interventions that align with their cultural preferences. In addressing domestic violence, we recognize the unique experiences of different cultures and tailor our services to promote safety and healing while respecting cultural sensitivities.

Finally, our drug addiction services consider the varying cultural perceptions of addiction and approach treatment in a way that is sensitive, respectful, and attuned to the specific needs of diverse families.

At Families and Children Together, we are committed to helping families thrive while honoring their cultural heritage.

  • At Families and Children Together, we understand the urgency and importance of addressing child abuse and ensuring the safety of children. While the Child Abuse Hotline is crucial for emergencies, we also recognize the need for alternative means of support for non-emergency situations.
The introduction of a non-emergency ‘Help for family & children’ HELPLINE would provide mandatory reporters with an alternative channel to route non-emergency calls. By utilizing this HELPLINE, families would be able to connect to relief services that can assist them in navigating through difficult situations, providing them with the support, guidance, and resources necessary to create a safe and nurturing environment for their children.
