Money MythBusters Helps Genesee County Families Explore Everyday Budgeting
Managing household money looks different for every family. On Wednesday, October 21st, Families And Children Together (FACT) welcomed caregivers to our Genesee County Community Support Hub for another Money MythBusters session, presented by ELGA Credit Union.
The evening brought families together for a relaxed conversation about budgeting, everyday expenses, and different ways to manage money. Rather than focusing on one approach, participants explored several budgeting methods and discussed how different strategies can work depending on employment, income, family size, and changing household needs.
The session began with an interactive game to get the conversation going. Throughout the evening, caregivers asked questions, shared real-life situations, and learned practical tips they could apply to their own households.
One of the biggest lessons was that no single budgeting method works for everyone. Finding an approach that makes sense for your current situation is an important step toward building confidence with money.
While caregivers participated in the discussion, children enjoyed their own activities, including a money-themed bingo game and even a little hide-and-seek. Providing activities for children helps make these sessions easier for families to attend and enjoy together.
We thank ELGA Credit Union for presenting Money MythBusters and helping make important financial conversations more approachable for families.
FACT created Money MythBusters to give caregivers a welcoming, judgment-free place to ask questions, learn new skills, and connect with people who can help. These sessions are part of our ongoing work to support family stability and help caregivers feel more confident in their everyday decisions.
Another Money MythBusters session is planned for November. Each session stands on its own, so families are welcome to attend whether they have joined us before or are coming for the first time.
