What Happened

On June 3rd, FACT partnered with the Crim Fitness Foundation for Food Smarts, a hands-on Caregiver Dinner at North Flint Food Market in Genesee County. This event is part of FACT's Growing Season effort, our ongoing push to build food stability and security for families across Genesee and Saginaw counties.

Caregivers learned practical, real-world ways to shop smarter and make healthier choices for their families. The evening included a live cooking demonstration, a guided shopping tour, and a shopping challenge, giving families a chance to compare prices, plan meals on a budget, and put new skills to use right on the store floor. Families also walked away with simple, tasty meal ideas they can make at home in minutes, the whole family included. The

The real excitement came at the end of the night when families were given a $10 gift card and challenged to go and collect a meal for under $10! Congratulations to the two raffle winners of the family-sized crock pots. Everything was free for all attendees.

Who Was There

Food Smarts was presented by the Crim Fitness Foundation and held at North Flint Food Market.

FACT connected with the Crim Fitness Foundation for this event, and their program made the evening what it was. The Crim team provided the food, led the instruction, and guided the shopping tour, giving families an informative and genuinely helpful look at how to shop and eat well on a budget.

North Flint Food Market made for the perfect setting. It is a food co-op with a state-of-the-art shopping experience, a butcher counter that stands out on its own, and deals throughout the store that families have to see to believe. Hosting Food Smarts here gave caregivers a real store, real prices, and real food to work with, not just a presentation.

Why It Matters

Knowing how to stretch a grocery budget, planning out meals, and choosing healthier foods makes a real difference in a family's week. Food Smarts gives caregivers tools they can use the very next time they walk into a store: how to compare prices, plan, and put together a meal that is both healthy and easy.

This event is one piece of FACT's larger Growing Season effort, which focuses on food stability and security for families in Genesee and Saginaw counties. Pairing practical shopping skills with a hands-on cooking demo helps turn good intentions into something a family can actually do at home that same week.
