What Happened
On June 6th, FACT joined the Union Sportsmen's Alliance and UAW Local 659 for Hooked on Community, a free outdoor event at the Blue Gill Boat Launch on E. Coldwater Road in Genesee County. The event was organized and led by the Union Sportsmen's Alliance and UAW Local 659, who provided free fishing, outdoor activities, and lunch for the entire community.
The first 400 children to arrive each received a free fishing rod and reel, provided by UAW Local 659 and the Union Sportsmen's Alliance. Families came out early, and the energy at the lake was high, with fishing, birdhouse building, kayaking, target shooting, bird-of-prey demos, and more!
FACT hosted a Caregiver Lunch alongside the event, giving parents and caregivers a chance to sit down, eat together, connect with FACT staff, and learn about the services available to their family.
Who Was There
This event was open to the public and free to all participants. An adult chaperone accompanied all children through all the fun activities. Families came from across Genesee County to take part.
The event was organized by:
Union Sportsmen's Alliance
UAW Local 659
FACT participated as a community partner, offering entertainment for the littlest participants and there to be available for families. Thank you to the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance and the Local UAW 659 for all their hard work!
Why It Matters
Families do not always walk through a door to ask for help. Sometimes the best way to meet a family where they are is to show up where they already want to be. Events like Hooked on Community give FACT the chance to have real conversations in a relaxed setting, where caregivers can ask questions and learn about support without pressure.
The Union Sportsmen's Alliance and UAW Local 659 created something genuinely good for this community. FACT is grateful to have been part of it.
